Clostridium ljungdahlii as a biocatalyst in microbial electrosynthesis – Effect of culture conditions on product formation

نویسندگان

چکیده

Microbial electrosynthesis enables the production of value-added chemicals from CO2 and electrons provided by an electrode. Clostridium ljungdahlii is electroactive acetogen that potentially could be used in microbial systems. However, optimal operational parameters for using C. are not known. Here, we explored effects yeast extract, pH, cathode potential. A low initial pH increased rate acetate H2 serum bottle cultures. When cultivated bioelectrochemical systems, coulombic efficiency (i.e. close to 100 %) was observed at a potential between −0.8 V −1.0 V, while highest productivity reached V. Addition extract medium needed ensure reproducible results. Using cyclic voltammetry, detected hydrogen-mediated extracellular electron transfer during growth on system. These results show should chosen carefully maximise electrosynthesis.

Effect of Organic Substrate on Promoting Solventogenesis in Ethanologenic Acetogene Clostridium ljungdahlii ATCC5538

Clostridium ljungdahlii is a strictly anaerobic acetogene known for its ability to ferment a wide variety of substrates to ethanol and acetate. This bacterium presents a complex anaerobic metabolism including the acetogenic and solventogenic phases. In this study, the effect of various carbon sources on triggering the metabolic shift toward solventogenesis was considered. The bacterium was grow...

Biofilm Formation by Clostridium ljungdahlii Is Induced by Sodium Chloride Stress: Experimental Evaluation and Transcriptome Analysis

The acetogen Clostridium ljungdahlii is capable of syngas fermentation and microbial electrosynthesis. Biofilm formation could benefit both these applications, but was not yet reported for C. ljungdahlii. Biofilm formation does not occur under standard growth conditions, but attachment or aggregation could be induced by different stresses. The strongest biofilm formation was observed with the a...
